AI Newsroom

The Digital Explorers would like some weekly news on AI handed to us on a platter, preferably in a format that fits our needs. Felt like a good job for AI, multiple models can be used on this job.

Right now our AI Newsroom consists of..

  • The AI editor – A language that looks at the newsfeeds and selects the right items. A vector database helps it cluster the items that belong together. The editor decides what important AI news will be covered.
  • Our AI copywriter takes the selected information and writes headlines and short news messages covering the main points. These get passed on to our..
  • AI anchorman, a text-to-speech model that reads the text out loud.
  • The Creative AI comes up with image descriptions matching the texts and passes them to our
  • Image maker, a generative image model.

Together this newsroom covers this week’s AI news in a post on our website with an audio version and creates a video.

There’s room for improvement and more innovation. First of all we want to add more news sources and test our newsroom when they cover a different news theme. A ‘talking head’ or other virtual newsreader could be a nice addition in our video version, models like HeyGen, D-ID or Synthesia provide could help do this job. The audio provided in a podcast format could be nice as well.

On our yes-more-innovation-please list:

  • create your own private newsroom to select to your specifications
  • generate video using AI to accompany the news
  • a fully self run newsroom using agents? Right now we manage the newsroom process from our code, but many of these steps could be self managed by the AI, using external tools to do the work. This has downsides as well, but would be nice to investigate.
